[podosfajrofili] n. f.—2009; from Greek podosphaïros “football” and phile. Def.: The study and knowledge of footballs; the art of collecting them.

A football is in itself a fascinating object: it is universal, spherical, tanned by drained colours, and filled with children’s dreams of packed stadiums. When I cut it up, the material starts a new life. My friends bring me back these footballs from their travels around the world, together with a picture and the story behind it. To insist on the value of these objects, I make jewels out of them. The necklaces share a common shape, but each one of them is inimitable. I like to look for the careful balance between the series and the unique piece.

The book of the artist and the poster represent different ways to communicate my work. In the end we are confronted with the disturbing question of the very nature of the work of art. It is not only the object, but also and mainly its image.

A la base, il y a une fascination pour l’objet : universel, sphérique, patiné de couleurs souffrantes et porteur des rêves d’enfants qui se voient en dieu du stade. En le découpant, je discocie la matière qui prend alors une existance propre. Ma collection est enrichie par mes amis qui me ramènent de leurs voyages des ballons du bout du monde, photographiés et porteurs d’histoires. J’en fais des bijoux, c’est ma manière d’insister sur la valeur de ces objets. Les colliers ont tous la même forme, pourtant chacun est inimitable. J’aime cette mise en difficulté des notions de « série » ou de « pièce unique ». Le livre d’artiste et le poster explorent différentes manière de communiquer mon travail. Au final, une question troublante se pose: qu’est-ce que l’œuvre ? Ce n’est pas forcément ou uniquement l’objet, c’est aussi et surtout son image. Ce projet a été distingué dans le cadre des bourses de Genève pour la jeune création en 2010.
